The function of external plastering is to protect buildings from adverse natural elements. However, it is often used to enhance the external appearance of a structure. In either case, care must be exercised when choosing the finish material in order to avoid creating new problems. Water or vapor retention will not only have negative aesthetic effects but will also increase the risk of allowing humidity to permeate the walls and then penetrate the interior of the structure. Because of its natural properties and high vapor permeability, NHL plasters eliminate humidity problems and remain the plaster of choice for most substrates.
