Fort Point, Golden Gate Park
Fort point has stood guard at the narrows of the San Francisco Bay, underneath the Golden Gate Bridge for 150 years and has been called “one of the most perfect models of masonry in America”. Preservation and restoration work, previously done with inappropriate materials such as Portland cement, was failing and damaging the brick work, mainly due to the marine environment. Consequently, Saint Astier® Natural Hydraulic Lime’s NHL 3.5 was selected for the repointing of this monument, due to its resistance to salt and adverse weather conditions and its compatibility with brick.
